Set to premiere later this week at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, critically acclaimed director Francis Ford Coppola has released another teaser trailer for his upcoming sci-fi epic drama, Megalopolis.
Set to star Adam Driver as the main protagonist, whom audiences last saw can freeze time in the previously released clip, the new teaser gives audiences a better glimpse of the film. Described officially as “a Roman Epic fable set in an imagined Modern America,” the full synopsis reads, “The City of New Rome must change, causing conflict between Cesar Catilina (Driver), a genius artist who seeks to leap into a utopian, idealistic future, and his opposition, Mayor Franklyn Cicero (Esposito), who remains committed to a regressive status quo, perpetuating greed, special interests, and partisan warfare. Torn between them is socialite Julia Cicero (Emmanuel), the mayor’s daughter, whose love for Cesar has divided her loyalties, forcing her to discover what she truly believes humanity deserves.” While the teaser shows shots of Driver’s character seemingly leading citizens for a dramatic change, the world around him seems to be crumbling.
Driver is slated to star alongside a star-studded cast that includes big names like Aubrey Plaza, Shia LaBeouf, Jon Voight, Jason Schwartzman, Talia Shire, Grace VanderWaal, Laurence Fishburne, Kathryn Hunter and Dustin Hoffman. Megalopolis premieres at Cannes Film Festival this Friday, May 17 and arrives in theaters later this year.
