Aēsop’s First Beijing Store Is a Tranquil Sanctuary Imbued With Historical Cues

Making its first foray into China’s capital, Aēsop has officially opened its doors to its Beijing retail location. Designed by Beijing-based architectural firm, atelier suasua, the store goes by the name of Aēsop WF CENTRAL House 19 — a nod to the historical House 19 that was previously owned by the last emperor’s cousin.

Tucked away in the city’s Wangfujing shopping district, the new store features an exterior that’s reminiscent of siheyuan — a type of courtyard housing that was commonly found in the city throughout history. Through the gr and gateway, visitors are welcomed into a courtyard fitted with reimagined and waterproof pergolas, which offers guests serenity and shade as it guides them to explore the surrounding houses.

Distinguished with wooden rafters and high ceilings, the main house is fitted with an inviting display of Aēsop’s full offerings. Through the alcoves is red copper that echoes the interior’s warm wooden hues. An olfactory journey awaits next door, where visitors of offered serene infusion chambers to sample Aēsop’s fragrances. Over at the west pavilion is where in-depth consultations take place, providing a private and undisturbed environment.
