Gordon’s Mashup Masters Season 2 continues to bring South African artists together in unexpected ways, with Episode 3 introducing a fresh collaboration between Lordkez and Goldmax. Following the genre-defying pairings of Kane Keid and Ndabo Zulu, and Lowfeye and Zawadi Yamungu, the latest episode once again explores what happens when two distinct creative voices are given the space to meet, experiment and build something entirely new.
Now in its second season, Gordon’s Mashup Masters brings together 10 artists across five original collaborations. Rather than creating conventional features, each pairing is designed as a genuine creative exchange, encouraging artists to move beyond familiar territory and discover what is possible when different musical perspectives collide. For Lordkez and Goldmax, that process meant finding common ground without losing what makes each artist unique. The mashup becomes less about one sound overtaking another and more about discovering the space in between them — allowing each artist to contribute their own perspective while responding to the creative energy of their collaborator.
“Working with Goldmax pushed me to approach the music differently. When you put two artists with their own ideas and ways of creating in the same room, you have to listen, adapt and be willing to try things you might not normally consider. That was one of my favourite parts of the experience — seeing how our individual sounds could come together and become something neither of us would have created alone,” says Lordkez.
For Goldmax, the collaboration was an opportunity to embrace the unpredictability of the Mashup Masters process and explore the creative possibilities that come from working outside a familiar environment.
“Lordkez brought a completely different energy into the process, and that made the collaboration exciting from the beginning. We weren’t trying to make our sounds identical; we were figuring out how they could work together. There was a lot of experimenting, listening and building on each other’s ideas, and the final mashup is a reflection of that process,” says Goldmax.
That spirit of experimentation sits at the heart of Gordon’s Mashup Masters. Across the season, the series challenges artists to move beyond their established creative languages, while giving audiences a closer look at the process behind the music. The result is a series built around experimentation, storytelling and musical discovery, with a bigger and more dynamic visual production bringing audiences even closer to each collaboration. Adding another layer to each collaboration, Gordon’s has created a bespoke cocktail inspired by the unique combination of artists and sounds featured in the mashup. The pairing of music and mixology reinforces the series’ central idea: that memorable experiences are often created by bringing unexpected elements together with creativity and care.
With two collaborations still to come, Gordon’s Mashup Masters Season 2 continues to celebrate the depth, diversity and innovation of South African music. As Lordkez and Goldmax demonstrate in Episode 3, when artists are given the freedom to experiment, the result can be something that neither could have created alone.
