Jordan Brand is digging deep into the archives this year, bringing back the iconic Air Jordan 6 Infrared under a new name: “Salesman.” More than a retro, this release taps into sneaker lore, storytelling and the rarely seen moments that shape footwear history.
The “Salesman” edition draws inspiration from a legendary unreleased 1999 sample — the kind of pair that only ever lived in back rooms and retailer previews. From the jump, the details tell the story. Special packaging and a custom hangtag mirror how rare samples were once distributed, offering a nod to the behind-the-scenes world that fuels sneaker culture.
It’s a quiet flex, and a reminder of the AJ6’s enduring status as a cultural artefact.
The Air Jordan 6 holds a special place in history. It’s the silhouette Michael Jordan wore during the 1991 NBA Playoffs, when he captured his first championship and officially began his dynasty.
Designed by Tinker Hatfield, the Infrared 6 has seen a handful of retro releases over the years — but the “Salesman” stands apart.
This version faithfully resurrects key elements from the 1999 sample, including the extended Infrared midsole, a black nubuck upper, visible Air unit in the heel and a Dynamic Fit inner sleeve.
Jordan Brand went the extra mile, reverse-engineering the precise Infrared shade and refining the shape and tongue height to echo the original pairs MJ wore on court. Subtle sample text appears on the inner collar, while the packaging completes the archival feel.
