As one of South Africa’s most relatable and entertaining online personalities, Primo9teen has carved out a unique space in the digital world through his creativity, humour, and authenticity. Now, as the ambassador for Nedbank YouthX, he’s using his platform to champion innovation, collaboration, and youth empowerment. In this conversation with HYPE, Primo opens up about his journey, the lessons he’s learned, and how YouthX is helping the next generation of South Africans unlock their potential.
As the face of Nedbank YouthX, what excites you most about being part of a platform that empowers young South Africans?
Staying in tune and In touch with this generations ideas of innovation and entrepreneurship. It’s nice to see how Ma2k innovate and problem solve through everything that they are going through in this social media age. And how they are
navigating this new Mzansi.
YouthX is all about unlocking potential, how do you personally connect with that mission in your own journey as an influencer and creative?
I do it through collaboration. I pride myself on collaborating with young up and coming content creators who present an opportunity to see potential for new content within myself and for me to see their potential and what they can offer to the content creator economy that we have created as content creators. An economy that we have created as young South Africans. Not only what others have to offer to the industry, but
what I can do to improve and stay on top my game. I also do free collaborations with a lot of local brands and suppliers showcasing their abilities on my platform in many ways.
You’ve built a strong online presence through your personality and content. What lessons from your career do you think can inspire other young people trying to break into the industry?
To stay flexible in an ever-changing society. Resilient in the face of challenges and obstacles and to trust myself in the value that I offer in everything that I do.
In your view, what are the biggest challenges young South Africans face when it comes to turning their passions into opportunities, and how does YouthX help bridge that gap?
I think, guidance and conduct are things that the youth of today haven’t really had help with or access to, and YouthX offers a range of mentorship platforms through the 3 pillars that we operate through:
– YouthX Live masterclasses for the students
in varsities.
– YouthX awards for those that are brave enough
to enter their entrepreneurial ideas. 3. YX25 for the broader
public to engage with various stakeholders and like minded
people.
Beyond the campaign, how do you see yourself using your platform to keep driving conversations around youth empowerment and financial freedom?
My platform is a platform open to many conversations whether current affairs or issues the youth are facing so we will continue to be an open and welcoming platform for those conversations to happen, but also partnering with brands and campaigns that speaker to the youth and what is going on in South Africa at the moment. We are also conducting our own personal endeavours to alleviate unemployment and empowering the young through internships within the Primo9teen brand, and allowing young creators to speak through the content we create together.
