I would describe Boipelo as a magical artist who has been gifted with an equally beautiful voice. Most young vocalists who are early in their careers don’t necessarily understand how to use their voice. Oftentimes, they are preoccupied with trying to prove how good of a vocalist they are instead of focusing on making a good song. Well, that isn’t the case for Boipelo. From the onset of the song, her unique voice performs in conjunction with the production. 

Her sound is something closer to an iteration of neo-soul, a version of R&B we don’t usually get from the local scene. In this regard, she possesses a maturity that is beyond her years. From a subject matter point of view, Boipelo is still on the mark. The way she describes her innermost thoughts and tribulations are well captured and concise, with just enough detail to keep the listener intrigued throughout the song. There isn’t much in the way of criticism that I have for her. However, what I will say is that I am excited to observe her progression in the scene. Listen to “DontuCry” below.
