Sepedi Bars Done Right: Maleboo’s Standout on The Tswyza Show

We can’t deny that South African hip-hop is the talk of the town — though part-time listeners might not always agree, which brings me to the subject of this article: The Tswyza Show. Week after week, Tswyza has been holding it down, blessing us with some of the best guests in the game.

On a recent episode, he linked up with one of the hottest rappers from Limpopo, straight out of Ga-Sekhukhune — Maleboo. If we’re keeping it real, he’s one of the best to ever come out of the province. When was the last time you heard Sepedi raps sound this cool and refreshing? It gave me the same feeling as hearing HHP for the first time as a kid.

Take this line: “Ke monna, nna ke rekile palamonwana ka hlaba le thedi.” Not the hardest bar on paper, but the honesty of a rapper openly showing respect to his wife? That’s rare — and refreshing. Rappers are often out of pocket, so hearing this was powerful.

And Tswyza? His ability to match his guest’s energy needs to be studied at the university level. From the Landrose episode to this one with Maleboo, he proves time and again why he’s one of the top MCs this year.

But let’s not overlook Maleboo’s sharp social commentary either: “Limpopo keya Polokwane, ge o tswa ka Sekhukhune ba nyaka visa.” He’s calling out the gatekeeping in Polokwane that keeps rappers outside the city from shining — even though, truth be told, most Polokwane rappers aren’t winning either. He’s not wrong.

This episode is an eye-opener and a must-watch. Shout out to Maleboo for putting Ga-Sekhukhune on the map in the highest way.
