Change is in the air, and TransUnion is leading the charge! Be the Reason Things Change—a bold movement tackling one of South Africa’s biggest challenges: financial exclusion—is about to make waves.

This campaign is not just about finance. It’s about visibility, empowerment, and rewriting the future. For millions of South Africans, access to information around credit has been out of reach. Now, that’s changing.

Breaking barriers, literally – TransUnion has unveiled Africa’s first-ever peelable billboard at Melrose Arch, Johannesburg. This striking, interactive installation invites the public to strip away layers of fear, misinformation, and exclusion. Behind each peel? A QR code unlocking a free e-learning course valued at R2,000.

And it doesn’t stop there. TransUnion is backing the movement with life-changing prizes:

Five Education Fund prizes worth R20,000 each to support tuition or learning costs.Ten Tech-for-Learning prizes valued at R7,000 each, including a laptop and 12 months of data—equipping learners for a digital-first world.

This is more than an installation—it’s a statement. Nearly 1 in 2 South Africans lack a clear understanding of how credit works, and over 16 million people remain locked out of the financial system. Be the Reason Things Change puts the power back into people’s hands.

On 26 August, the campaign goes digital with an online peelable billboard experience for another 4,500 South Africans, bringing the total to R10 million worth of free credit education, training, and prizesnationwide.

Visibility is power,” says Amy Beck, CMO TransUnion Africa. “When people understand how credit works, they gain the confidence to change their future, and lenders gain the insights to see them clearly. This campaign is about breaking down barriers and empowering South Africans to take control of their financial story.”

The campaign is backed by the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and fronted by SA icons Springbok Lukhanyo Am and fashion entrepreneur Tshepo Mohlala, who will peel the first layers and share their inspiring journeys from adversity to achievement.

This is about more than credit—it’s about unlocking opportunity. It’s about being seen, included, and empowered to dream bigger.
