SingleMotherOfTwo (Björn Thomas) is a contemporary artist and musician, based in Cape Town, South Africa. They’re inspired by the constant barrage of noise from the city, which gives them an innate need to create and compose. The result is raw and noisy experimental performances with textural layers and heavy resampling.
SingleMotherOfTwo started playing drums at the age of 12 in a punk band with their twin brother – eventually selling the drum set for a drum machine which led to creating electronic music and further expanding their sound. Now, heavily influenced by the DIY/Punk scene, SingleMotherOfTwo is drawn to gritty, harsh aesthetics and sounds in both music and art, believing that it’s just as important to have a distinguishable look, ‘something undeniably you’, as it is to have a unique sound.
SingleMotherOfTwo has always been interested in fashion and their typical fashion style is sleek, minimal, monotone (black) and gender-neutral. When they’re not making music, SingleMotherOfTwo listens mainly to ambient and experimental projects and creates visual art across a range of media; sculpture, video and print.
They have a lot of music and shows currently in the works and would love to play overseas, particularly in Berlin and Amsterdam.
