Maftown Heights made a triumphant return this year, delivering an unforgettable experience filled with stellar performances and electrifying moments. The event proved once again why it remains a cornerstone of South African hip-hop culture.
The night kicked off with energy as Kane Keid, Blaklez, Marcus Harvey, and N’veigh set the tone, raising the bar with each performance. Kane Keid surprised the crowd by bringing out KindlyNxsh, who performed his hit track (you know the one!). The chemistry between the artists and the audience was electric, igniting the early evening with pure fire.
As the night deepened, the performances only got better. Thato Saul shook the stage, performing fresh tracks from his latest album. 25K followed with his signature energy, delivering a standout performance of “Culture Vulture.” The crowd’s reaction showed they were more than ready for him.
One of the most iconic moments of the evening was seeing all the Motswako legends take the stage together. For an entire hour, they performed their most beloved tracks, reminding fans why they fell in love with Motswako in the first place. The unity and nostalgia left an indelible mark on the event.
Maglera Doe Boy proved why he’s a strong contender for the 2024 MVP, commanding the stage with undeniable energy and charisma. He brought the house down, calling up his fellow NUTswako rappers—leaders of this new wave—to join him. Performing some of his dopest tracks, he also surprised the crowd by inviting Dee Koala and Lia Butler to share the stage, creating an unforgettable moment.
Priddy Ugly followed with a masterclass in rap performance, leaving no doubt as to why he’s deserving of SAMA recognition. Jay Jody kept the momentum high, delivering a show-stopping set before handing the stage over to A-Reece, gave the crowd a night to remember.
The Qwellers were the youngest performers of the night, and their energy was nothing short of outstanding. Despite the Maftown Heights crowd leaning slightly older, judging by their reception to the younger acts, the audience warmly welcomed the group, showing appreciation for their talent and drive. The highlight of their set was when they called Sjava to join them on stage—a moment that was truly amazing to witness and showcased the blend of youthful energy and veteran artistry.
The production was top tier, with an incredible stage setup that elevated the experience. The MCs kept the crowd hyped, and the event organization—thanks to the efforts of the PR team and brands involved—was seamless. The packed crowd was a testament to Maftown Heights’ enduring legacy.
