The Red Bull Box Cart Race is officially returning to Sandton Drive on Sunday, 20 September 2026, bringing back one of South Africa’s most entertaining and creative events.
The race challenges teams to build and race custom-made, engine-free carts down a downhill course filled with obstacles, jumps, and plenty of excitement. Teams of up to five people are invited to enter by submitting their creative cart concepts online.
Last hosted in Johannesburg in 2018, the event attracted thousands of spectators and featured over 80 teams competing for bragging rights through speed, creativity, and performance.
Applications are now officially open, with teams encouraged to bring bold ideas, unique designs, and plenty of personality to the starting grid.
South Africa remains the only African country to host the globally celebrated event, which has become known for combining sport, entertainment, and creativity in a fun and family-friendly atmosphere.
Applications close on Friday, 3 July 2026.
