Launching 21 October 2025, Better Rewards is South Africa’s first collaborative, brand-powered loyalty programme offering instant discounts every time customers shop — unlike traditional programmes that reward later. The consistent partner brand roster helps shoppers plan and budget better.

CEO Rui Morais says the programme “unlocks real value where it counts – at the till – when families are making tough choices,” adding that savings can be reinvested into healthcare.

Members receive 10% off over 10,000 products from 140+ brands, almost double the previous basket, with discounts applying even to sale items. The Pharmacy Boost feature gives an extra 5% off when members fill prescriptions or buy medication, encouraging better adherence to chronic treatments and improved health outcomes.

A new partnership with Capitec offers its 25 million clients an additional 5% discount, giving them a total of 15% off at the till when paying with a Capitec card. Capitec’s Kelly Goldsworthy says the collaboration “expands access to meaningful, everyday savings.”

Better Rewards members with Dis-Chem Health, Gap Cover, or Life Insurance enjoy at least 20% off, with opportunities to unlock up to 100% savings (capped at R3,000 monthly) based on their HealthCheck ratings. Dis-Chem staff receive an extra 10% boost, and existing 9 million members will be automatically migrated, with points valid for six months.

Morais says Better Rewards “reimagines how loyalty incentivises a healthcare ecosystem,” aligning with Dis-Chem’s goal to improve access to affordable primary healthcare. The programme was developed by X, bigly labs by Dis-Chem, the company’s innovation arm, which uses data and technology to enhance customer experiences.

The initiative aligns with global healthcare priorities around chronic disease prevention and primary care access. “By rewarding script adherence and proactive health management,” Morais concludes, “Better Rewards makes a meaningful difference in our members’ daily lives and helps build a culture of better health.”
