Connecting the UK and West Africa one release at a time, London-based Ghanaian multi-disciplinary artist and music executive KJ Spio is back with his first single of 2025, “Emiko”, featuring African hit-maker Oxlade.

Known for his DJ Khaled-like influence in the Afrobeats scene, Spio’s impressive track record includes collaborations with heavyweights like Gyakie, Konshens, Sarkodie, Ambré, Harmonize, Libianca, and more. This latest offering solidifies his place as a pioneer pushing Afrobeats to global heights, with support from platforms like COLORS, Ones To Watch, GRM Daily, Notion, New Wave Magazine, and Ministry of Sound.

Produced by the acclaimed BlaiseBeatz (Chris Brown, Wizkid, Asake, Davido, Adekunle Gold, Omah Lay), “Emiko” blends infectious melodies with a powerful message about overcoming obstacles and believing that all things are possible. The track also draws on the rich cultural heritage of Ghana, a mission close to Spio’s heart.

The upcoming music video takes this message a step further, as KJ Spio and Oxlade film at the historic Cape Coast Castle, a significant site in the history of the trans-Atlantic slave trade. The visual opens with a powerful exchange, as the two artists sit atop the castle, reflecting on the journey from past to present:
“This is where they had our forefathers underneath the castle, bro. Now look at us – two kings out here making beautiful art.”

The video also pays homage to the strength and beauty of Ghanaian women, with the female cast styled in IMPARI’s ONT_KOP clothing collection, designed to highlight the divine presence of African women while reflecting the growing disconnect between humanity and the Earth.

Speaking on the track, KJ Spio shared, “The song is about believing in all things being possible through God. ‘Emiko’ means ‘only God’ – it’s a message for all the believers out there.”

With a live version recorded in Ghana alongside The Compozers (J Hus, Asake), this track promises to be a standout in the global Afrobeats movement.

“Emiko” is out, stream and share with your friends.
