A sonic disruptor is here. Pretoria-born artist Q2K is making their mark with their debut EP, Divine Mojo, set for release on 28 March. A fearless celebration of identity, self-expression, and the underground ballroom culture of the 1980s and ‘90s, Divine Mojo is an unapologetic invitation to let loose, embrace duality, and step into one’s power.
Known for a background in creative direction and fashion styling, Q2K’s artistry extends far beyond music. Their distinct visual and sonic aesthetic is a seamless blend of influence and intention, reflecting their deep-rooted connection to the worlds of fashion, performance, and nightlife.
At the heart of Divine Mojo is a journey through contrast – masculinity versus femininity, modesty versus sex appeal, pain versus pleasure, organic versus synthetic, contemporary versus traditional. Q2K weaves these themes effortlessly across the EP, creating a world where self-expression knows no limits.
“This project is my liberation,” says Q2K. “Divine Mojo is about fusing all the realities that shape me – my queerness, my influences, my love for movement and music; into one perfect universe where we dance, we celebrate, and we exist freely. I can’t wait for people to experience it.”
The EP kicks off with “Dollhouse,” an electrifying first single that sets the tone with its main prerogative – let’s get down. Here, Q2K explores the push and pull of hyper-femininity and masculinity, both sonically and visually. This fluidity continues with “Wunmortym,” featuring Rati$upremacy, which marries traditional disco sounds with the infectious energy of queer culture. On “Fatally Fame,” Q2K pays homage to icons like Madonna, channelling larger-than-life pop stardom. They bring it on “All The Time”, while “Beja,” featuring Kamo_ww, embraces the evolution of South African queer nightlife – blending global club influences with homegrown sounds like Qqom and Amapiano.
With Divine Mojo, Q2K carves out a sonic realm that is both nostalgic and futuristic – a space where ballroom meets the underground club, where house, pop, and disco collide with alternative rap, and where every track pulses with the energy of a movement.
