This year’s Red Bull BC Once national finals will see OG champions returning to defend their legacy and the new challengers emerging from the regional cyphers.
The battle drums are pounding, and anticipation has never been higher as Red Bull BC One South Africa Cypher prepares to celebrate 18 years of breaking excellence with its strongest bracket yet.
This means the OGs are back, bringing their years of experience, mastery, and battle-tested resilience. But they won’t have it all their own way, as the next generation is hungry, ready to carve their names into breaking history. Alongside the Top 16 B-Boys, this year also sees an expansion of the B-Girl category to a Top 8 showdown, giving more female breakers the platform they deserve.
Some of the greatest names in South African breaking history are making their return to the battle floor. B-Boy Benny, the powerhouse who claimed national titles in 2019 and 2021, is back to cement his legacy. B-Boy Meaty, a two-time champion in 2017 and 2018, returns with his signature footwork and hunger for another win. Alongside them are B-Boy Jandre and B-Boy Toufeeq, two names that have left their mark on past cyphers.
In the B-Girl category, B-Girl Keisha, the original B-Girl champion from 2019, is ready to take her skills to the next level. Meanwhile, B-Girl Courtnaé Paul, the 2021 champion and a true trailblazer, is set to bring the fire once again.
For years, the B-Girl category has been an essential part of Red Bull BC One, but in 2025, it’s levelling up. Instead of the usual Top 4 format, we’re expanding to a Top 8 B-Girl category, allowing more female breakers to shine. South Africa’s B-Girls have been pushing the game forward, and this year, they’re ready to prove they belong on the biggest stage.
But that’s not all. This year’s cypher is more than just a competition— it’s a cultural moment. Red Bull is bringing an even bigger hip-hop experience to the event, featuring top artists and DJs, turning the cypher into a full-scale celebration of hip-hop and breaking culture. Expect high-energy performances, electrifying beats, and a crowd that’s ready to bring the hype.
This year’s event isn’t just about competition though, the focus is also heavily on growth, learning and building the breaking community from the ground up. As part of this mission, the Red Bull Hero Tour will run alongside the cypher, offering breaking workshops designed to empower local breakers, refine their skills, and strengthen connections within the scene. Leading the charge is none other than B-Boy Menno, a Red Bull All Star and four-time Red Bull BC One World Final Champion, bringing his expertise and experience to the South African breaking community.
The workshops are completely free and open to all, starting in Cape Town and ending off in Johannesburg.
