South African music’s global reach has never been stronger. Spotify’s 2025 Global Impact List highlights the 25 most-streamed South African songs outside the country, proving just how far the sound has traveled. Through this list, Spotify celebrates artists whose tracks were in heavy rotation outside their home countries, reinforcing its commitment to appreciating and amplifying local culture.

Makin legendary moves

Grammy-winning sensation Tyla, only the second African female artist in history to chart on the Billboard Hot 100, dominates the Global Impact List with eight of the top 10 spots. “Jump” featuring Gunna and Skillibeng leads the pack with nearly 200 million streams, followed by her hit singles ‘ART’ and ‘Push 2 Start.’

The star has come a long way since her days as an emerging artist. in March 2023 she was recognised as Spotify’s  EQUAL Ambassador—a global initiative that supports female artists through education, inspiration, and networking. In the same year, her rising star status was further cemented with her selection as the RADAR Africa artist—a programme dedicated to driving the discovery of rising artists worldwide.

Tyla continues to dominate the Global Impact List taking 13 – more than half – of the spots on the top 25 list, with songs like “Safer”, “On My Body”, “Breathe Me”, “Priorities”, “Back to You” and “Intro” to name a few.

Amapiano to the world

While Tyla’s fusion of pop and Amapiano continues to captivate audiences, the Amapiano movement itself is stronger than ever. The genre, known for its log drum, infectious melodies, and rhythm-driven beats, has become a global phenomenon. A standout from this year is the platinum-certified ‘Biri Marung’ by CowBoiiDJ Maphorisa, Ego SlimflowFocalisticMr PilatoSJE KonkaScotts Maphuma, and Tebogo G Mashego. The track not only took over the charts but also found its way into the setlists of international superstars, proving Amapiano’s lasting impact on the global stage.

Spotify for artists

Spotify’s Head of Music for Sub-Saharan Africa, Phiona Okumu, says “South African artists have a unique voice and a remarkable ability to connect with global audiences. Their success reflects the country’s rich musical heritage and innovative spirit. At Spotify, we’re proud to champion these talents as they reach new heights”.
