COOL&BLAK Sundays Celebrate Women in Hip-Hop with a Star-Studded All-Female Edition

If you’re a real hip-hop head and you’ve been paying attention to the streets, then you’ve definitely heard about COOL&BLAK Sundays, the signature event curated by Jay Jody and Blaklez. Known for bringing together a mature audience and a soulful blend of hip-hop and R&B, this monthly gathering has quickly become a cultural staple — a place where grown folks can unwind and soak in quality music without compromise.

This time around, they’re raising the bar even higher. In honour of Women’s Month, the next edition of COOL&BLAK Sundays is a dedicated celebration of women in music — and the lineup is nothing short of iconic. As someone who’s spent the past two and a half years championing women in the game through Women in African Hip-Hop, I couldn’t be more thrilled by what’s about to go down this Sunday.

Leading the event as hosts are none other than Queen Azzizar and Buzzi Lee — two powerhouses in South African hip-hop. Queen Azzizar has been pushing the culture for over a decade, from radio and publications to television and live commentary. She’s an OG in every sense of the word, and her involvement in this initiative is a beautiful full-circle moment. On the mic alongside her is Buzzi Lee, the most streamed female rapper from Pretoria and arguably the best lyricist among her peers right now. Seeing both of them take center stage is going to be a moment for the books.

The DJ lineup is a dream come true for those of us who value skill over hype. Expect heat from the likes of DJ FAE FAE, ADILLXH, FIF LAAA, and SMALL BABES — all talented selectors who bring flavour, technique, and serious vibes to the booth. It’s refreshing to see an event prioritize artistry over social media clout. No gimmicks here — just clean transitions, proper mixes, and real energy. Bonus? They’re all incredibly beautiful too, but make no mistake: the decks are their battlefield.

And if that wasn’t enough, the incomparable Lia Butler will be gracing the stage. Arguably one of the best vocalists in South Africa right now, she’s set to deliver a performance that could easily steal the show. With her voice, presence, and stage mastery, this might just be the most talked-about set of the night.

This special edition of COOL&BLAK Sundays goes down on Sunday, 3 August 2025 at Alta Bar, and it promises to be a cultural reset — bringing together genuine fans of hip-hop, real vibes, and a platform that truly honors the contribution of women in the music industry.

Ene ke kgopela le tleng le di kgarebe tsa lena aker, oska hwetsa le lebeletse basadi ba batho, See you all on

If you care about the culture, you’ll want to be in that room.
