The pulse of global dance music beats louder today as Lady of the House, the internationally celebrated platform uplifting women and non-binary artists in electronic music, announces its official expansion into South Africa. The announcement comes as anticipation builds for their upcoming panel at the Africa Rise Music Conference (ARMC) in Johannesburg this May; and with it, a bold new chapter for the movement’s growing global story.

Born in the United Kingdom in 2021 as a pioneering book honouring 150 women across the dance music industry, Lady of the House swiftly evolved into a multifaceted worldwide force spanning a record label, educational initiatives, and landmark events. From hosting sold-out exhibitions to forging alliances with pioneering brands across the globe, Lady of the House has ignited change at the highest levels. Now, following a successful launch into Brazil last year, led by artist CAMZ, the movement lands on South African soil.

At the heart of this new beginning spearheading this expansion stands powerhouse and cultural figure Money Badoo, who steps into her role as South Africa’s first Lady of the House Ambassador. Recognised for her trailblazing impact across music and fashion, Money Badoo’s appointment as regional ambassador reflects both her personal ethos and the deep alignment between her values and those of Lady of the House.

“Being part of Lady of the House means standing on the shoulders of giants while carving space for the next wave of greatness,” shares Money Badoo. “South Africa is rich with raw talent and deep stories — this is about making sure the world hears them, and hears them loud.”

For Laila McKenzie, founder of Lady of the House, the expansion into South Africa is both a natural evolution and a mission fulfilled. “We’re beyond excited to expand into South Africa with Money Badoo at the helm. The energy, talent, and cultural innovation coming out of this region is undeniable. It’s time the global industry gives women and gender marginalised people here the platform they deserve.”

The South African launch aligns with Lady of the House’s ongoing mission to inspire, educate, and empower the next generation of music leaders from historically underrepresented communities. The organisation has chosen to debut its presence at the Africa Rising Music Conference (ARMC), an event that has become a vital platform for the evolution of African music and culture.

To mark this milestone, Lady of the House will host an exclusive panel discussion at ARMC titled “Elevating Women & Non-Binary Artists in South Africa’s Dance Music Scene”. The panel will explore key themes around inclusion, creative entrepreneurship, and building sustainable careers in music—particularly for women and non-binary artists. Money Badoo will be central to this conversation and will be joined by fellow change-makers Gigi Lamayne, Namakau Star, and SHAMISO.
