Untouchable Entertainment from Pretoria and Mpumalanga was crowned the winners of the inaugural Red Bull Mzansi Battle which took place on Saturday 23 November at 1 Fox Johannesburg. The crew from Pretoria battled went head-to-head with Urban Pantsula from Alexandra to clinch the win in a heated battle that had the crowd and judges wanting more.
Hosted by the vibrant Bontle Modiselle, the Red Bull Mzansi Crew Battle is a celebration of the iconic dance styles and crews that define South Africa’s vibrant cultural landscape. From Amapiano and Spantsula to Sbujwa, this ultimate street dance battle showcased the talent of Mzansi’s top dance crews. Eight crews from all over Mzansi competed in a diverse range of local dance styles and challenges where the winner was determined by a panel of judges and the audience.
Judges Sibusiso Mthembu, Sne Mbatha and Hope Ramafalo had their hands full as the crews battled each other in multiple rounds, each bringing their unique local style and energy to the stage. The first round was the Choreo Showcase aka Mbonise (Show them your dance style)) round where the crews introduced themselves through a pre-prepped choreographed routine. The second round was the battle round – in this round crews battled each other to the best local sounds played by DJ Kgotso. The last round added a twist to it where losing a round meant losing half your crew.
“We were so excited to informed that the completion is takes place and we were one of the dance crews, we trained for about a month to make sure that we are in sync. We were nervous in the beginning, but the audience cheered for us and gave us confidence. We were really worried in the final round because we know that Urban Pantsula were crowed favorite, but we poured our hearts out on the dance floor to entertain the crowed in the final round to make sure we win. This win is not only for us but for our parents to validate why we do what we do.” said the group.
