After a hiatus from releasing solo music, rapper Kulani Hobyane—known by her stage name Ms Kulie—is back with her highly anticipated debut EP, Dyi Baddie.

The EP follows her feature on the Limpshaks Mixtape track “48” and a period dedicated solely to collaborations and songwriting. Named after its lead single, Dyi Baddie is produced by Beatmaker and rapper Nqabza The Boss, with engineering by renowned SA hip-hop producer Zeph Beats. The title’s “Dyi,” meaning “something massive” in Xitsonga, sets the tone for this bold anthem of self-empowerment—a shoutout to anyone who embraces their confidence and knows they’re a “baddie” in every sense.

Ms Kulie’s EP also benefits from her recent recognition as one of the 200 recipients of the 2024 SAMRO Music Creation Support Fund, adding both validation and resources to the project’s quality and depth.

The 5-track project boasts collaborations with Tsonga rap’s finest Dee Michaels and rapper/producer MalcomZee on “The Code II / The Guy Code,” a remix of a previously released single produced by Canar LED and MalcomZee. This remix takes inspiration from Marvin’s Room, offering both a female and male perspective on relationships and respect.

Ms Kulie also tapped award-winning super-producer Ph RawX, a prominent name in SA hip-hop, for the track “Faneriwa.” This song was recorded around the time of Ph RawX’s L.I.M.P album, which also features Ms Kulie. “Faneriwa” became the catalyst for her EP, marking the start of its conceptual journey.

The outro track, “AP (Arguing Point),” produced by Jay Beats and engineered by rapper-producer Joyler Teezey (who also engineered Faneriwa), is a freestyle that pays homage to Ms Kulie’s roots. It opens with a sample from her collaboration with Limpshaks on e-tv’s hip-hop show Shiz-Niz, grounding the EP in her artistic journey.

Independently released under Ms Kulie’s name with The Juice Publishing, Dyi Baddie will be available for streaming and purchase on November 29, 2024, across major digital music platforms. This EP is set to establish Ms Kulie’s voice as a unique force in South African hip-hop, promising fans a dynamic and authentic listening experience.
