Marcel Breuer’s Wassily Chair Receives Ultra Matte Contemporary Reframing

The Wassily Chair, an iconic piece of furniture designed by Marcel Breuer has received a new color and reframing update by Knoll. Expanding from its usual polished chrome look, three new ultra-matte finishes have been introduced. Now coming in Dark red, White and Onyx, each respective hue is incorporated into its curved, tubular frame and paired with leather slings. For a touch of personalization, a range of color options is also available for the chair slings, offering some versatility to complement various palettes and moods of different spaces.

First introduced in 1925, the Wassily Chair has become the most emblematic piece of Breuer. Although it was conceptualized during his apprentice years, the piece encapsulates the design philosophy of the Bauhaus movement. The frame itself, also drew inspiration from the shape of a bicycle frame with influences from the De Stijl movement.

All new color options for the Wassily Chair’s contemporary reframing are currently available to shop via Knoll, retailing for $3,633 USD each.
